Some states have programs to help low-income persons aged 65-plus pay their Medicare premiums. Generally, monthly income must be less than $1239 ($1660 for couples) and assets less than $4000 ($6000 for couples), though requirements can vary from state to state, and there are different levels of the program corresponding to different income requirements.  A brochure on the program is available at http://www.medicare.gov/Publications/Pubs/pdf/10126.pdf.
